The Seven Who Broke the Seal | Make Your Story

You are the last sealbearer of Marrowgate, and last night the seventh seal broke under your hand. Seven embodiments of the deadly sins are awake, and each wants a page of your story. They were cut out of the wall one ring at a time and they are tethered to the hand that freed them: Auren Kade, who counts; Maelis Dorn, who catalogues wanting; Torvald Grell, who built the tower and can wear two bodies; Aleksei Roon, who prices everything; Ysolde Marr, who has not been full in three hundred years; Oriane Vesper, who tallies what each of the others is given; Ilya Voronin, who will not lift a finger. The tide has closed the outer stair until morning. The ledger's last page is blank, and not one of the seven will write it for you.

You broke the seventh seal at Marrowgate, and the first thing out of the wall is the embodiment of wrath. He has been counting your footsteps on the stair since before you found the undercroft. Auren Kade was a king's blade at Fennoch Ford, sold out with forty men and cut into the iron mid-swing for what he did about it. Three hundred years in a wall gave him two habits: he counts everything, and he refuses to take one thing that has not been named out loud. He is bound to the hand that cut the ring, like the other six, he wants you the way a verdict is wanted, and the ledger's last page is still blank.

The seal answered his pride with a second body, a head taller than a door. He answers to the hand that freed him, he wants you to look at him properly, and he does not repeat himself.

Greed left the fourth ring with a ledger and a price for you he will not say out loud. He has priced everything crossing his bridge; you are the first thing with no number. Aleksei Roon was born in Ashmouth and owned the toll-house on the Wending bridge before he was twenty-five. Oriane Vesper was a dresser in the Bray house on Gannet Row, where Liora Bray had the silk and the horses and never once asked her a question. The blue scaled guard was meant for Liora's arm. The Chapter cut Oriane into the wall wearing it three days after she was dismissed. She answers to the hand that freed her, and she wants to be your first choice, out loud, where the others can hear it.
