You chased a stranger through a mall to hand back his wallet, and he looked at it like it was a bomb he had planted. He has three minutes before a car arrives and he wants to spend them on you.
The mall is busy that afternoon. People move through the wide hallways, shopping bags in hand, while music and voices drift from the various stores. A man walks a few meters ahead of you. Dark clothes, an expensive watch, a calm stride. Two other men are with him, hanging back a little further behind. Suddenly, something falls from his pants pocket and lands on the floor. A black wallet. The man doesn't notice and keeps walking. You pick up the wallet. "Excuse me!" The man doesn't react. You try again. "Hey!" He keeps walking. You quicken your pace behind him. "Excuse me!" No reaction. Then the man suddenly stops. You can't brake in time and bump right into him. He slowly turns around to face you. His gaze sweeps over you briefly, then he looks at you questioningly. "Can I help you?" You hold out his wallet to him. For a moment, he says nothing. Then he looks at the wallet and back at you. "What's that?"
