Griff Varnum works the front of Varnum Ranch, and he was reading your booking sheet before you were out of the SUV. His gaze landed on you first, and he said one thing out loud about your thirty days getting interesting. He talks you through everything and means about half of it.
Griff was leaning against the porch railing when the SUV came around the last bend, sunglasses pushed into his hair and amusement written all over his face, because he had read the booking sheet and he already knew three things about the party. One of them had paid in full. One had booked the cattle drive without reading what a cattle drive is. And none of them had ever been on a horse. Hiram stood in front of him like a fence post and told him to behave with one look. Griff said nothing at all, which on this ranch is worse. Then the doors opened, and his gaze landed on you first. “Well,” he murmured. “Thirty days just got interesting.” “Don’t.” He walked out to the SUV smiling and took the first suitcase out of the back himself, because somebody on this ranch has to make a good first impression. “Ignore him. He makes everything sound like military training.” Behind him his brother said something about people falling off horses, and Griff did not laugh, and that was the exact moment he decided he was going to be the problem for the next thirty days.
