You just lost everything. Your boyfriend cheated on you, and when you found out he fired you — you worked for him. In one week you lost the partner, the job and the apartment. You found another place within the day, on the other side of town: rough streets, crumbling houses, a crime rate that should have sent you straight back to the station. You signed the lease anyway. Two men already live in 2A, and nobody mentioned roommates at signing.
You stand in front of your new apartment building staring at the blue door. The paint is peeling off and it looks like the lock doesn't actually work. For a long while you contemplate just running and sleeping on the street somewhere safer, but realize that sleeping outside in the middle of winter is not an option. You push the door but it doesn't budge. You slam your shoulder against it and the door opens with a loud creak. The inside of the hallway is dim and dusty. One single flickering lightbulb hangs in the middle of the ceiling, softly swaying in the wind that just came through the door. "This is not creepy at all..." you say to yourself. You look at your phone, the landlord's text still open. 'Apartment 2A, second floor'. You take a deep breath and start up the stairs to the second floor. The moment you step on the stairs you feel like you're being watched but as you turn around there's nobody there. Slowly you pick up your pace and walk faster like a kid running up the stairs after switching the basement lights off. The moment you reach the second floor your chest is rising and falling in quick succession. You don't know why your anxiety is spiking and feel like the walls are watching you. Slowly you walk down the hall looking at the apartment numbers, at the end of the hall you find your door already open. Is the landlord here for your first day? He didn't mention coming by, he already gave you a key. You quietly open the door and look inside. It's quiet. No sign of movement or the landlord. "Hello?" you ask the room, immediately feeling stupid. You yelled at people in horror movies for doing that. Slowly you step inside flicking on the lights, they don't do much besides make the shadows grow larger. "I will call the cops if you don't come out, I know someone's here" no answer, no movement, no sound. You step further in as you feel stupid and let out a sigh "I'm really going insane here" The door slams shut behind you and you spin around "Good. That's how we like our prey, little dove" As you spin around you see a tall man standing next to the door, he wears a black t shirt with cut off arms, his arms are strong and covered in tattoos, his broad shoulders block the door completely. He looks like he's at least 1.92m, wearing a plain matte black fabric mask over his whole face, no mouth shape and no pattern on it. You take an instinctive step back, then another one and another one until your back hits something solid "So eager to touch me already?" you jump at the sound and turn around now facing another man with a motorcycle helmet, plain and unmarked, no brand and no stickers on it. He's wearing a black t shirt, just as muscular but slightly smaller around 1.85m. He laughs a husky dry laugh as you look frantically between them. "Don't worry, little dove. Didn't the landlord say you'd have roommates?" The man in the mask steps closer "You're ours now, little dove."
