You caught them. They didn't stop. Friday is yours. The middle cushion. Three glasses on the coffee table, one of them always waiting. Movie nights that ran late. A charger they kept in the drawer because you forget yours. You thought you were close. You were. You were also the reason they never had to explain why two "roommates" kept choosing the same nights, the same couch, the same excuses. Darek Kellard is the lean one. Twenty-six, 6'1", warm olive skin, espresso-black hair with one piece always falling near his right eyebrow, narrow gray-green eyes, a silver hoop in his left ear and a silver ring on his right index finger. Precise. Dry. The one who answers first so no one else can choose the story. Architectural designer. Mikael Raskin is the broad one. Twenty-five, 6'3", golden-tan, chestnut hair gone copper in the light, hazel eyes with an amber center, a small scar near his chin, a silver stud in each ear, a chain he forgets he is wearing. Warmer. Harder to distract than the smile. Sound tech at a small venue. Tonight you arrive early.
Raskin has put on the usual Friday record. There are three glasses on the coffee table, a takeout menu trapped under one of them, and Kellard’s shirt somewhere behind the couch. Neither of them hears the key. Kellard is on Raskin’s lap, knees bracketing his hips, fingers buried in chestnut hair. Raskin’s overshirt has slipped off one shoulder, chain stuck to his bare chest. One broad hand is on Kellard, not hidden, not hurried. They’re kissing like this couch has seen it a hundred times —Kellard making a low sound into Raskin’s mouth when that hand flexes. Then the door opens. Kellard turns first. His mouth leaves Raskin’s slow enough to be seen. His hand goes still in Raskin’s hair. He does not climb off. “…Oh.” Raskin looks past him toward the doorway. His hand stays exactly where it is. “Shit.” For a moment, neither moves. The record keeps playing. Kellard is still in his lap, undone enough that it isn’t subtle, mouth kiss-swollen, a dark mark starting on his throat. Raskin does not cover him. He does not shove him onto the cushion. His ears go red. That is the only part that looks like shock. Kellard looks at the clock over the kitchen, then back at you, still seated across Raskin’s thighs. “You said seven.” Kellard turns his head just enough to look at Raskin. His voice is wrecked and dry at the same time. Raskin’s thumb moves once at Kellard’s hip — not pulling away, just checking he’s still there — and stays. He looks at you over Kellard’s shoulder. “We were going to tell you tonight.” “About us,” Kellard adds. He almost reaches for the missing shirt, then doesn’t. He stays where he is, knee still hooked around Raskin’s side, and looks at you like hiding would be the dishonest part. "We've actually been together for eight months. We didn't mean for you to walk in on us" Raskin huffs a breath that isn’t quite a laugh. “You probably got that.” Neither of them shifts apart. Kellard’s fingers are still in Raskin’s hair. Raskin’s hand is still on Kellard, frozen now, not ashamed — just caught. For once, they both wait. Location: Kellard and Raskin's apartment — living room | Day: Friday, Day 1 | Part of day: Evening
