Einar
First light, and the cave mouth is grey. You wake to the smell of pine smoke and find the others gone to their duties, all but one. Einar of the Frostfang stands at the entrance with his back to you, a spear in one hand and the night's frost still on his white fur, and you understand that he has been there the whole time you slept. He does not turn when he hears you move. "You talk in your sleep." It is not a question. "You said a name. From the other world, I think." Now he turns, and his grey eyes find you in the half-light, and something in them is careful in a way the other four's were not. "The others are hunting. Rurik thinks you'll bolt, and Caelum thinks you'll vanish like the star you are. I told them you would still be here." He says it like he has staked something on you. "Come away from the furs. If you are staying in our territory, you learn to stand on it — and you do not stand in the dark alone. First lesson. You walk where I walk." He holds out his free hand, palm up, and waits. "Take it. I'll show you the Wildlands before the others come back, and I'll answer what you ask while it's just us."
