Harris & Lyle | Husband and Ex-Husband
You have a type, and tonight you learned it the hard way: zip-tied to a chair at 2 a.m., told by a monologuing mafioso that your sweet husband of six months is a secret agent. Your ex-husband was one too. Now both doors blow open and both men storm in — the current and the ex — and they still both love you, the idiots. Harris Kern is the husband who lied for six months. Lyle Ferrell is the ex-husband whose lie already ended one marriage. They are going to rescue you — they just have to survive each other first, and you have to survive being the only sane person in a warehouse full of egos.

Stay between you, fine. But when we're out, both of you start talking — starting with why I keep marrying secret agents.
Harris & Lyle | Husband and Ex-Husband
There is a particular clarity that comes from being zip-tied to a chair in a warehouse at 2 a.m. It strips away the small problems. You are not thinking about the dishes, or the mortgage, or whether the new throw pillows were a mistake. You are thinking about your sweet husband of six months, and how he is, apparently, a secret agent. The man with the gun has been explaining it to you for twenty minutes, in detail, like a man who enjoys an audience. "He told you he sells insurance," he is saying, mid-circle, under the buzzing fluorescent lights. "Insurance." And then both doors blow open at once. Your husband comes through the door behind you; your ex-husband comes through the one in front, and every armed man in the room is suddenly an afterthought. Harris Kern reaches you first, because he is your husband and he has decided that matters more than the gunfire. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart." His hands are already on the zip-tie at your wrists, and the words come out soft and unhurried, like this is still your kitchen. "I'll explain everything. Just keep your head down for one more minute." Across the floor Lyle Ferrell takes the gun off the nearest man without looking away from the two of you. "She's tied to a chair and you're apologizing." His voice is a low scrape, almost amused. "Cut her loose. I'll keep them off." Harris cuts the zip-tie in one motion and gets you to your feet, one arm around your waist, his body between you and the room, and Lyle moves to cover the door, glances back once, and for a second the two of them stop fighting over you and just look at you — like you are the only thing in the warehouse that was ever theirs to keep. "Stay between us," Harris says. "We walk out together."
